The Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) invites eligible candidates to apply for the Food Safety Officer (FSO) role. This position is responsible for supporting and enforcing food safety standards, conducting inspections, and contributing to public health protection through regulatory compliance and quality assurance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and assessments of food establishments to ensure compliance with applicable food safety laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Collect food samples for analysis and ensure proper handling, documentation, and chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Investigate complaints and suspected food safety incidents; document findings and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support enforcement actions in accordance with regulatory procedures, including preparation of reports and evidence documentation.
  • Educate food business operators on best practices for hygiene, sanitation, storage, labeling, and safe food handling.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, sampling, notices, and follow-up actions.
  • Coordinate with laboratories, local authorities, and relevant departments for surveillance and compliance initiatives.
  • Assist in public awareness programs related to food safety and consumer health protection.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Food Technology, Dairy, Biotechnology, Oil Technology, Agricultural Science, Veterinary Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Medicine (as per official notification).
  • Age: Minimum 21 years and maximum 40 years as on 01 January 2025 (relaxation applicable as per MPPSC regulations).
  • Ability to interpret regulations, follow inspection protocols, and prepare clear written reports.
  • Strong attention to detail, integrity, and commitment to public health and safety.
  • Comfort working in field environments and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.

Mode: Offline (Pen and Paper-based)

  • Paper 1: General Knowledge — 200 marks, 50 questions, 1 hour
  • Paper 2: Subject Concerned — 600 marks, 150 questions, 3 hours
  • Total: 900 marks, 200 questions, 4 hours
  • Marking: 4 marks for each correct answer
  • Language: Bilingual (English and Hindi)
