Role Summary: We are seeking qualified and safety-focused Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVI) to support vehicle inspection, compliance verification, and enforcement of applicable motor vehicle rules and standards. The MVI plays a critical role in ensuring roadworthiness of vehicles and promoting public safety through fair, consistent, and well-documented inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct vehicle inspections for roadworthiness, fitness certification, and compliance with applicable motor vehicle rules and standards.
  • Verify vehicle documentation, identification details, and technical specifications during inspection activities.
  • Assess mechanical and safety components (e.g., brakes, steering, lights, tires, emissions-related checks where applicable) and record observations accurately.
  • Prepare inspection reports, maintain inspection records, and ensure timely submission of required documentation.
  • Support enforcement activities related to motor vehicle regulations and assist in investigations/verification as assigned.
  • Participate in interviews/document verification processes as required by the recruiting authority.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments, stakeholders, and officials to ensure consistent application of standards and procedures.
  • Stay up to date with changes in motor vehicle rules/acts, departmental instructions, and inspection protocols.

Requirements

  • Education: Diploma in Automobile Engineering (three-year course) from an institution recognized by the Central Government or a State Government OR Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (three-year course).
  • License: Must possess a valid driving license authorizing operation of geared motorcycles and light motor vehicles (LMV).
  • Age: Minimum 18 years. Maximum age limits may vary by category as per applicable rules and government norms.
  • Working knowledge of automobile/mechanical systems and vehicle inspection practices.
  • Familiarity with motor vehicle rules/acts and general safety/compliance principles.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to document findings clearly and accurately.
  • Integrity and professionalism when dealing with the public and stakeholders.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting (preferred).
