BTSC Pump Operator

Position: Pump Operator (Public Utilities / Water Supply Operations)

We are seeking a disciplined and safety-focused Pump Operator to support round-the-clock pumping operations for public utility services. This role is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining pumping systems and associated equipment to ensure reliable service delivery. The ideal candidate is technically aware, attentive to detail, and comfortable working in shift-based operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate pump sets, motors, valves, and related control systems as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor pressure, flow, temperature, vibration, and other operational parameters; record readings in logs/registers as required.
  • Start/stop pumps and adjust operating conditions to maintain consistent supply and system stability.
  • Perform routine inspections of pump houses, pipelines, electrical panels (as applicable), and safety devices.
  • Report abnormalities such as leakage, unusual noise, overheating, low pressure/flow, or electrical faults to supervisors/maintenance teams.
  • Assist in preventive maintenance activities including lubrication, cleaning, replacement of minor parts, and housekeeping of the pump station.
  • Coordinate with electricians/fitters/technicians during breakdown maintenance and planned shutdowns.
  • Ensure compliance with safety rules, lockout/tagout practices (where applicable), and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Support basic water quality/operational checks as instructed and help maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards at the facility.
  • Maintain documentation such as shift handover notes, incident reports, maintenance requests, and inventory usage records.

Requirements

  • Minimum education: Class 12 (Intermediate) from a recognized board (or equivalent), as commonly required for similar public utility operator roles.
  • Basic understanding of pumping systems, motors, and operational safety practices is preferred.
  • Ability to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, based on operational needs.
  • Comfortable working in field/plant environments (pump houses, stations, utility sites).
  • Good record-keeping skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Physically fit to perform routine operational duties such as inspections, minor handling tasks, and extended standing/walking.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with relevant experience in water supply, irrigation, municipal utilities, industrial pumping, or similar operations.
