Position: Eye Testing Officer (ETO)

We are seeking a skilled and patient-focused Eye Testing Officer (ETO) to support community eye-care services through accurate vision assessment, refraction support, preliminary eye examinations, and assistance with ophthalmic workflows. This role is ideal for candidates with a Diploma in Ophthalmology/Refraction and a strong commitment to public service, quality screening, and ethical clinical practice.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct vision screening and basic eye assessments, including distance/near visual acuity checks.
  • Support refraction procedures and assist in identifying refractive errors under established clinical protocols.
  • Operate and maintain ophthalmic/optometric instruments (as applicable), ensuring calibration and hygiene standards.
  • Record patient history, test findings, and observations accurately in registers/EMR systems as per departmental guidelines.
  • Assist ophthalmologists/optometrists in outpatient workflows and patient counseling regarding eye health and follow-up care.
  • Support community outreach/screening camps, including patient flow management and preliminary assessment.
  • Ensure infection control, sterilization practices, and safe handling of equipment and consumables.
  • Participate in documentation, reporting, and audit readiness; maintain confidentiality of patient data.
  • Coordinate with administrative teams for scheduling, stock/consumables tracking, and referral management.

Requirements

  • Intermediate (Class 12) from a recognized board.
  • Diploma in Ophthalmology / Refraction (or equivalent relevant qualification).
  • Computer proficiency with CCC (or equivalent certification) is preferred/required depending on organizational norms.
  • Working knowledge of vision testing procedures, refraction basics, and patient handling.
  • Strong attention to detail, accurate record-keeping, and ability to follow standardized protocols.
  • Good communication skills in a clinical/public-facing environment; empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Ability to work in high-volume settings and during outreach activities when required.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and public service standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an eye clinic, hospital OPD, vision center, or community screening program.
  • Familiarity with government/public health workflows and documentation standards.
  • Comfort using basic office software for reporting and data entry.
