This role is intended for experienced legal professionals with substantial advocacy practice who are prepared to take on judicial responsibilities within the Higher Judicial Service cadre. Selection is through a competitive written/online examination process as per the applicable recruitment rules.

Responsibilities

  • Preside over and adjudicate civil and/or criminal matters as assigned, ensuring fair and timely disposal of cases.
  • Interpret and apply constitutional provisions, statutes, rules, regulations, and binding precedents.
  • Manage court proceedings, including hearings, evidence evaluation, and procedural compliance.
  • Draft, dictate, and deliver reasoned judicial orders and judgments with clarity and legal accuracy.
  • Maintain judicial decorum, independence, and impartiality; uphold ethical standards and confidentiality.
  • Oversee case flow management, scheduling, and administrative coordination in accordance with court directives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable judicial service rules and reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB or equivalent).
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of advocate practice (as specified in the recruitment eligibility criteria).
  • Age Limit (as on 01 January 2024): Minimum 35 years; Maximum 45 years (age relaxation as per Allahabad High Court HJS recruitment rules).
  • Core Competencies: Strong legal research and writing skills, sound knowledge of procedural and substantive law, analytical reasoning, and decision-making ability.
  • Professional Attributes: High integrity, judicial temperament, strong communication, and the ability to work under time-bound judicial requirements.

  • Written/Online Examination (as notified by the High Court).
