The Food Safety Officer (FSO) role supports public health by helping ensure food safety compliance across the supply chain. The selected candidates will contribute to inspection, monitoring, reporting, and enforcement activities aligned with applicable food safety standards and departmental procedures.
Responsibilities
- Conduct food safety inspections of food business operators (as assigned) to assess compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
- Collect and document samples and evidence as per prescribed procedures for testing and verification.
- Prepare inspection notes, reports, and related documentation within defined timelines.
- Support investigation and follow-up actions on complaints or suspected violations.
- Coordinate with laboratories, administrative offices, and other stakeholders for testing, reporting, and compliance actions.
- Assist in awareness and outreach activities related to food safety and hygiene (as required).
- Maintain accurate records and ensure proper handling of official documents and case files.
- Perform other duties assigned by the department/commission in line with the post.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in one of the following disciplines from a recognized university/college: Food Technology, Dairy, Biotechnology, Oil Technology, Agricultural Science, Veterinary Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Medicine.
- Age Limit (as on 01 October 2024): Minimum 20 years; Maximum 25 years (age relaxation as per MPPSC rules).
- Ability to prepare clear written reports and maintain documentation.
- Working knowledge of basic computer applications for documentation and communication is preferred.
- Willingness to travel locally for field inspections and related duties (as applicable to the assignment).
