Responsibilities

  • Perform as a musician in Indian Air Force bands for ceremonial, official, and public events.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in tempo, pitch, and accurate musical execution during assessments and performances.
  • Sing one complete song and perform one preparatory tune as required during proficiency evaluations.
  • Read and/or interpret musical notations (e.g., Staff notation, Tablature, Tonic Solfa, Hindustani, Carnatic).
  • Play at least one musical instrument at a performance-ready level; tune instruments where applicable and match unknown notes (vocal/instrumental).
  • Maintain physical fitness, discipline, and readiness in accordance with IAF standards.

Requirements

Educational Eligibility

  • Passed Matriculation / 10th or equivalent with minimum pass marks from a Government-recognized School/Board.

Age Eligibility

  • Unmarried candidates born between 02 January 2004 and 02 January 2007 (both dates inclusive).
  • Refer to the official notification for any applicable age relaxation.

Music Proficiency & Certification

  • Proficiency in music with accuracy in tempo and pitch; ability to sing one complete song.
  • Ability to perform one preparatory tune and demonstrate any notation system such as Staff notation/Tablature/Tonic Solfa/Hindustani/Carnatic.
  • Ability to tune individual instruments (where required) and match unknown notes on vocal or instrument.
  • Proficiency in playing any one instrument.
  • Musical Experience Certificate (one of the following):
    • Grade 5th (or equivalent) or above in one instrument from a recognized music institute (e.g., TCL, RSM, KM Music Conservatory, Bangalore School of Music, TSM, GMI, Berklee School of Music, etc.), OR
    • Diploma (or equivalent) in music for Hindustani/Carnatic Classical Music from a recognized University, OR
    • Certificate of participation/awards at various events (as applicable, including for blowing instruments with staff notation).

Physical & Medical Standards

  • Height:
    • Male: Minimum 162 cm
    • Female: Minimum 152 cm
    • North East / hilly regions of Uttarakhand: Minimum 147 cm (female)
    • Lakshadweep: Minimum 150 cm
  • Weight: Proportionate to height and age as per IAF norms.
  • Chest:
    • Male: Minimum 77 cm with at least 5 cm expansion
    • Female: Well-proportioned; minimum expansion range of 5 cm
  • Hearing: Normal hearing; able to hear forced whisper from 6 meters with each ear separately.
  • Dental: Healthy gums, good set of teeth, minimum 14 dental points.
  • Vision: 6/12 each eye, correctable to 6/6 each eye; Refractive error limits: Hypermetropia +2.0D, Myopia 1D, including ±0.50D astigmatism; Colour Vision CP-II.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

  • Run: 1.6 km in 7 minutes (Male) / 8 minutes (Female)
  • Male: 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, 20 squats
  • Female: 10 sit-ups, 15 squats
