Position: Veterinary Medical Officer

We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Medical Officer to support animal health programs through clinical services, disease prevention, surveillance, and regulatory compliance. This role involves field and facility-based responsibilities, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and participation in structured selection processes (e.g., written examination and interview) where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical veterinary services including diagnosis, treatment, and basic surgical/medical procedures as required.
  • Conduct routine health checks, vaccination drives, deworming programs, and preventive healthcare initiatives.
  • Support disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, reporting, and implementation of biosecurity measures.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, case notes, inventory logs, and statutory documentation.
  • Coordinate with animal husbandry stakeholders, farms, shelters, and local bodies to improve animal health outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable animal health regulations, welfare standards, and departmental protocols.
  • Participate in public awareness, extension, and training activities for animal owners and community partners.
  • Assist with laboratory sample collection, preservation, and submission; interpret results in coordination with diagnostic labs.
  • Prepare periodic reports and contribute to program planning, monitoring, and evaluation.

Requirements

  • Degree in Veterinary Science (BVSc & AH or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the relevant Veterinary Council/authority as required by local regulations.
  • Knowledge of animal diseases, epidemiology basics, vaccination protocols, and treatment guidelines.
  • Ability to work in field conditions, including travel to rural/remote areas as needed.
  • Strong documentation skills and comfort with standard office tools (email, spreadsheets, reporting formats).
  • Clear communication skills for interacting with animal owners, community stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and adherence to safety and welfare standards.
  • Preferred: Prior experience in government/large-scale animal health programs, public health coordination, or livestock extension.
