Position: Government Law Officer (LL.B.)
We are inviting applications from qualified law graduates (LL.B.) for a Government Law Officer role supporting legal operations across government departments. This position involves legal drafting, advisory support, case management, and coordination with internal stakeholders and external counsel to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and opinions to government departments on administrative, regulatory, contractual, and litigation matters.
- Draft, review, and vet legal documents including notices, replies, affidavits, contracts, MOUs, tenders, and policy-related documents.
- Support litigation management by preparing briefs, coordinating with government advocates/counsel, and tracking case progress.
- Conduct legal research and prepare summaries of statutes, rules, case law, and government circulars relevant to ongoing matters.
- Assist in compliance reviews and risk assessments for departmental actions and decisions.
- Maintain case files, documentation, and records in accordance with government procedures and audit requirements.
- Coordinate with multiple departments, courts/tribunals, and external agencies for timely submission of documents and responses.
- Support departmental inquiries, RTI-related legal inputs, and statutory reporting where applicable.
Requirements
- LL.B. degree from a recognized university.
- Enrollment with the State Bar Council (preferred; may be mandatory depending on the specific posting).
- Working knowledge of Indian legal system, court/tribunal procedures, and government processes.
- Strong drafting skills for legal notices, pleadings, contracts, and official correspondence.
- Ability to interpret statutes, rules, notifications, and administrative orders.
- Proficiency in documentation, file management, and basic computer applications (MS Office and email).
- Good communication and coordination skills; ability to work with multiple stakeholders under deadlines.
- Integrity, confidentiality, and adherence to public service standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience/internship in government legal cells, courts, PSUs, or with practicing advocates.
- Familiarity with service law, administrative law, constitutional law, contract law, and procurement/tendering frameworks.
- Experience with legal research databases and e-filing processes (where applicable).
