About this role: The Naval Dockyard Fireman supports safety and emergency response operations within dockyard and naval facility environments. The role focuses on fire prevention, rapid incident response, rescue support, and maintaining readiness of firefighting equipment and systems in compliance with applicable safety procedures.
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to fire alarms and emergency calls, assisting in firefighting, containment, and suppression operations.
- Support rescue and evacuation activities during emergencies, including assisting injured personnel and coordinating with response teams.
- Operate and maintain firefighting equipment such as hoses, hydrants, extinguishers, pumps, and related tools.
- Perform routine inspections of firefighting systems and safety equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Participate in fire drills, emergency preparedness exercises, and on-site safety briefings.
- Assist in identifying fire hazards and support preventive safety measures across assigned areas.
- Maintain incident logs, equipment check records, and other required documentation as per departmental procedures.
- Follow all safety protocols, chain-of-command instructions, and applicable rules for working in secure/industrial environments.
Requirements
- Ability to qualify in a competitive selection process that includes a written examination and a Physical Endurance Test (PET).
- Physical fitness and stamina suitable for emergency response duties in industrial and operational areas.
- Comfort working in shifts, during emergencies, and in potentially hazardous conditions with appropriate protective equipment.
- Basic understanding of fire safety practices, emergency response discipline, and equipment handling (training may be provided as per organizational norms).
- Strong teamwork skills, ability to follow instructions under pressure, and disciplined conduct in a regulated workplace.
- Willingness to work at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, and comply with security and access requirements.
