Agriculture Development Officer (ADO)

We are seeking a motivated Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) to support agricultural development initiatives, improve farm productivity, and strengthen farmer outreach programs. This role involves field engagement, coordination with stakeholders, data-driven planning, and implementation of agriculture schemes to enhance sustainable farming practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field visits to assess crop conditions, soil health, irrigation practices, and pest/disease incidence; recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide technical advisory to farmers on crop planning, seed selection, nutrient management, integrated pest management (IPM), and post-harvest practices.
  • Support implementation and monitoring of government/departmental agriculture schemes, demonstrations, and extension activities.
  • Plan and execute farmer trainings, field days, and awareness programs on modern and sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Collect, validate, and report agricultural data (acreage, yield estimates, input usage, weather impacts) using prescribed formats/tools.
  • Coordinate with allied departments, input suppliers, and local institutions to ensure timely delivery of services and resources.
  • Prepare periodic reports, documentation, and presentations for internal review and compliance requirements.
  • Promote adoption of improved technologies such as soil testing, micro-irrigation, mechanization, and climate-resilient practices.
  • Support grievance handling and resolution for farmer issues within assigned jurisdiction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Soil Science, Plant Protection, or a related discipline from a recognized institution (as per the recruiting authority’s norms).
  • Working knowledge of crop production practices, extension methods, and basic farm economics.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork extensively and travel within the assigned area.
  • Strong communication skills in local language(s) and the ability to deliver trainings and advisory effectively.
  • Basic computer proficiency for documentation, reporting, and data entry (MS Office or equivalent).
  • Understanding of public-sector processes, scheme implementation, and record-keeping is preferred.
  • Integrity, attention to detail, and a service-oriented mindset.
