Position: Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP)

Overview: The Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) supports safe and efficient train operations by assisting in locomotive driving duties, monitoring equipment performance, following operating rules, and coordinating with train operation staff. This role is safety-critical and requires strong technical aptitude, discipline, and readiness for shift-based work in diverse operating conditions.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Loco Pilot in operating locomotives in accordance with railway operating rules, safety protocols, and signaling systems.
- Perform pre-departure checks and monitor locomotive systems (brakes, traction, controls, gauges, indicators) during operations.
- Identify, report, and support troubleshooting of technical faults and irregularities in locomotive performance.
- Maintain vigilance for trackside signals, speed restrictions, and operational instructions; ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Support communication and coordination with control rooms, station staff, and maintenance teams as required.
- Maintain logs, checklists, and operational records as per prescribed procedures.
- Assist in emergency handling, incident reporting, and adherence to disaster management and safety drills.
- Work in rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and operate in varying weather and field conditions.
Requirements
- Education/Eligibility: Class 10 (Matric/High School) with ITI certificate in relevant trade OR Diploma/Degree in Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Age Limit: 18 to 33 years (as per applicable notification cut-off date); age relaxation as per government rules.
- Technical Skills: Basic understanding of mechanical/electrical systems, safety procedures, and ability to learn locomotive operations and diagnostics.
- Safety & Compliance: Strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Physical/Medical Fitness: Must meet prescribed medical standards for railway safety categories (to be assessed during selection/medical examination).
- Soft Skills: Discipline, situational awareness, teamwork, and clear communication under pressure.
