Position: Deputy Jailor

We are seeking disciplined, service-oriented professionals to join our corrections leadership team as Deputy Jailor. This role supports the safe, secure, and lawful operation of a correctional facility by assisting in supervision of staff, oversight of inmate management processes, and ensuring compliance with applicable rules, procedures, and standards.

The Deputy Jailor plays a key role in maintaining institutional order, coordinating daily operations, supporting rehabilitation-focused initiatives, and contributing to a professional environment grounded in integrity, accountability, and public service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in day-to-day administration of jail operations, including security, discipline, and inmate management.
  • Supervise and guide correctional staff; support duty rosters, post assignments, and shift handovers.
  • Ensure adherence to facility rules, standing orders, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and support security procedures such as counts, searches, escorts, access control, and contraband prevention.
  • Help coordinate admission, classification, and release processes in line with established protocols.
  • Support incident response, documentation, and reporting for security events, medical emergencies, and disciplinary matters.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and assist with audits, inspections, and compliance checks.
  • Coordinate with medical, welfare, counseling, legal, and rehabilitation services to support inmate well-being and reform initiatives.
  • Participate in training, briefings, and performance feedback to promote professional standards and continuous improvement.
  • Assist senior officers in implementing administrative instructions and operational directives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognized university.
  • Strong understanding of discipline, chain-of-command, and operational compliance in a structured environment.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond appropriately during emergencies.
  • Sound judgment, integrity, and a commitment to lawful and ethical conduct.
  • Good communication skills for reporting, coordination, and staff guidance.
  • Basic computer literacy for recordkeeping and official documentation.
  • Willingness to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by facility operations.
  • Ability to meet role-specific medical/fitness standards and complete verification processes as per organizational policy.
