Position: District Sports Officer (DSO)

We are seeking a qualified and motivated District Sports Officer (DSO) to support district-level sports development, athlete participation, and implementation of sports programs in alignment with government/department objectives. This role blends sports administration, coaching oversight, event management, and stakeholder coordination to strengthen grassroots and competitive sports across the district.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor district sports development initiatives, including athlete identification and talent nurturing programs.
  • Organize and oversee district-level tournaments, training camps, trials, and sports events; ensure timely execution, logistics, and compliance.
  • Coordinate with schools, colleges, sports clubs, federations, and local bodies to improve participation and performance outcomes.
  • Support the implementation of coaching and training frameworks; liaise with certified coaches and institutions for structured programs.
  • Maintain records of athletes, events, achievements, and district sports assets; prepare periodic reports and documentation as required.
  • Promote inclusive participation (youth, women, and underrepresented groups) and encourage community engagement in sports.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, relevant guidelines, and ethical practices in sports activities and events.
  • Assist in budgeting, utilization of funds, procurement coordination (as applicable), and resource planning for sports programs.
  • Represent the district in meetings/coordination forums and support inter-district/state-level participation and nominations.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate degree from a recognized university.
  • Sports Qualification: Diploma/PG Diploma in Sports Coaching from SAI, LNIPE Gwalior, a Central Sports University, or any UGC/Bihar-recognized sports university.
  • Sports Achievements (any as applicable):
    • Represented India in international events such as the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, or Asian Games; or
    • Represented the state at national level; or
    • Multiple participations in recognized university, youth, inter-services, police, or railway championships.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple events and stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of sports administration, athlete development pathways, and event operations.
  • Effective communication skills for coordination with institutions, officials, coaches, and athletes.
  • Comfort with basic digital tools for record-keeping, reporting, and online coordination.
