Position: District Sports Officer (DSO)

Organization: Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) / Government of Bihar

Overview: We are seeking qualified, performance-driven sports administration professionals for the role of District Sports Officer (DSO). The DSO supports district-level sports planning, athlete development, coaching ecosystem coordination, and implementation of government sports initiatives. This role blends field execution with administrative leadership and requires strong stakeholder management across institutions, associations, and government bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor district-level sports development programs, events, and talent identification initiatives.
  • Oversee organization of sports competitions, trials, and coaching camps in alignment with departmental guidelines.
  • Coordinate with schools, colleges, sports associations, and training institutes to strengthen participation and performance pathways.
  • Support athlete development through facilitation of coaching resources, training schedules, and performance tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable rules, procedures, and reporting requirements for sports schemes and district sports activities.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation, records, and periodic reports related to events, participation, outcomes, and resource utilization.
  • Assist in managing district sports infrastructure and logistics, including scheduling, utilization, and basic maintenance coordination.
  • Collaborate with relevant authorities on safety, medical fitness support, and event readiness planning.
  • Participate in official reviews, inspections, and meetings as required by the department/commission.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognized university in India.
  • Sports Coaching Qualification (Required): Diploma in Sports Coaching (relevant sport) from National Sports Institute under Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (SAI) or Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching (PGDSC) from Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior or qualification from a Central Sports University/UGC-recognized sports university/Bihar Sports University (as applicable under rules).
  • Sports Representation (Required): Candidate should have represented the country in recognized competitions or represented the state in National/International Championships (e.g., Olympics/Commonwealth/Asian Games) or participated at least twice in All India Inter-University/Recognized Junior Championship/National Youth Championship or three times in Inter Services Competition/All India Police Games/Inter Railway Championship.
  • Age Limit (as per rules): Minimum 21 years; maximum age varies by category (e.g., 37 years for Male; 40 years for Female UR/BC/EBC; 42 years for SC/ST). Age relaxation applicable as per recruitment rules.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills with the ability to work across multiple stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of sports event operations, athlete support processes, and administrative reporting.
  • Ability to work in field settings, including travel within the district for events, inspections, and coordination.
