We are seeking a detail-oriented Draftsman & Cartographer to support surveying, mapping, and technical drawing requirements for public-sector infrastructure and land-record initiatives. In this role, you will prepare accurate technical drawings, develop and update maps, and collaborate with engineering and field teams to ensure high-quality spatial and design documentation.
Responsibilities
- Create, revise, and maintain technical drawings, layouts, and plans based on specifications, field notes, and engineering inputs.
- Prepare cartographic outputs including thematic maps, base maps, and administrative/utility maps using GIS/CAD tools.
- Digitize, georeference, and update spatial datasets; ensure consistency in projections, scale, symbols, and labeling.
- Interpret survey data, topographic information, and land records to produce accurate map products.
- Maintain drawing and map version control; organize digital files and documentation as per departmental standards.
- Assist in preparing reports, map books, and presentation materials for internal reviews and stakeholder meetings.
- Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, and project teams to verify measurements and resolve discrepancies.
- Support quality checks to ensure compliance with relevant standards, guidelines, and project requirements.
Requirements
- Diploma/ITI/Graduate qualification in Draftsmanship, Civil Engineering, Geoinformatics, Geography, Cartography, or a related discipline (as applicable to the hiring authority’s criteria).
- Working knowledge of CAD and/or GIS tools (e.g., AutoCAD, QGIS/ArcGIS or equivalent).
- Understanding of mapping concepts such as scale, coordinate systems, projections, contouring, and symbology.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, survey sheets, and technical specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting, labeling, and data management.
- Basic proficiency in office tools for documentation and reporting.
- Good communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with digitization, georeferencing, and spatial data editing workflows.
- Exposure to government mapping/land record processes or public infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of local standards and administrative boundaries relevant to the project area.
