Fact-Checking Specialist

Position: Fact-Checking Specialist

Type: Full-time

Location: Remote / Hybrid (based on team needs)

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Fact-Checking Specialist to verify the accuracy, completeness, and clarity of content before publication. This role focuses on validating claims, dates, figures, eligibility criteria, and source attribution—especially for time-sensitive public information such as recruitment notices, exam schedules, results/answer key updates, application instructions, and official links. You will work closely with editors and content publishers to ensure our content is reliable, consistent, and supported by credible evidence.

Responsibilities

  • Verify factual accuracy of articles, notices, and updates (e.g., dates, counts, fees, eligibility, age limits, selection process, and step-by-step instructions).
  • Cross-check information against primary sources (official websites, official notifications, press releases, gazettes, and authenticated PDFs).
  • Validate hyperlinks, link text, and navigation steps (e.g., ensuring “Results/Answer Key/Marks” paths and login instructions match the official portal experience).
  • Confirm numerical consistency across a page (e.g., total vacancies, category-wise cutoffs, timelines) and flag discrepancies for correction.
  • Review content for misleading phrasing, ambiguity, or missing context that could cause user confusion (e.g., exam dates vs. tier dates, provisional vs. final answer keys).
  • Maintain documentation of sources used for verification, including timestamps, archived copies, and citations for auditability.
  • Collaborate with editorial and publishing teams to implement corrections quickly and accurately.
  • Apply internal fact-checking policies and contribute to improving verification workflows, checklists, and quality standards.
  • Support periodic audits of older content to ensure it remains current and appropriately labeled when outdated.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in fact-checking, editorial QA, research, journalism, or content quality roles.
  • Strong ability to interpret official notifications and structured information (tables of dates, fees, eligibility, posts, and instructions).
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to detect inconsistencies (e.g., mismatched totals, conflicting dates, incorrect labels).
  • Comfortable navigating government or institutional portals and verifying information through official sources.
  • Strong written communication skills for documenting findings and explaining corrections clearly.
  • Ability to manage deadlines for fast-moving updates while maintaining accuracy.
  • Proficiency with common office tools (Google Workspace/Microsoft Office) and basic web literacy (URLs, PDFs, page versioning).
  • High integrity and commitment to accuracy, transparency, and responsible publishing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience verifying exam/recruitment-related content (e.g., application timelines, admit cards, answer keys, results, marks).
  • Familiarity with editorial style guides and content governance processes.
  • Experience using source archiving tools (e.g., web archives), citation managers, or internal CMS workflows.
  • Ability to read and cross-check bilingual content (English/Hindi) is a plus.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience.
  • Flexible work arrangements (remote/hybrid options where applicable).
  • Opportunity to shape content accuracy standards and verification processes.
  • Learning and development support (research methods, editorial QA, policy training).
  • Collaborative team culture with clear ownership and accountability.
