Position: Food Safety Officer (FSO)
Overview: We are seeking a qualified Food Safety Officer to support food safety oversight, compliance monitoring, and public health protection initiatives. The role involves field inspections, sampling, documentation, coordination with stakeholders, and contributing to enforcement actions in line with applicable food safety laws and standards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and special inspections of food businesses (manufacturing units, storage facilities, transporters, wholesalers, retailers, hotels/restaurants, and street vendors) to verify compliance with food safety regulations.
- Collect food samples, ensure proper sealing/labeling, maintain chain-of-custody, and coordinate submission to approved laboratories for analysis.
- Review food safety management systems, hygiene practices, labeling/packaging, storage conditions, and traceability records.
- Investigate complaints related to food quality, adulteration, contamination, misbranding, or unsafe handling practices; document findings and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare inspection reports, notices, and case documentation; support enforcement proceedings when violations are identified.
- Coordinate with laboratories, local administration, and relevant departments for follow-ups, compliance verification, and public awareness activities.
- Support food safety surveillance programs, audits, and targeted drives during festivals, outbreaks, or high-risk periods.
- Maintain accurate records, registers, and digital submissions as required by the department/authority.
- Participate in training, briefings, and public outreach to promote food safety best practices.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Technology, Dairy, Biotechnology, Oil Technology, Agricultural Science, Veterinary Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Medicine from a recognized university/college.
- Knowledge: Understanding of food safety principles, hygiene and sanitation, sampling protocols, inspection documentation, and basic laboratory reporting concepts.
- Skills: Strong observation, report writing, documentation, and communication skills; ability to interpret guidelines and apply them in field conditions.
- Field readiness: Comfortable with extensive fieldwork, site visits, and coordination with diverse stakeholders.
- Integrity: High ethical standards and impartial enforcement approach.
- Age criteria: Typically aligned with applicable recruitment rules (commonly 21–40 years as per relevant authority norms; relaxations may apply as per policy).
