Position: Constable / Head Constable (Motor Mechanic)
Overview: We are seeking skilled and disciplined Motor Mechanics to support the operational readiness of a fleet of vehicles and mechanical equipment. The role focuses on inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of light and heavy motor vehicles to ensure maximum uptime, safety, and compliance with prescribed standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance on motor vehicles and associated mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension, electrical systems, and fuel systems.
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify faults and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate service records, job cards, and maintenance logs as per departmental procedures.
- Conduct road tests and functional checks after repairs to ensure safety and performance.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and accounting of tools, spare parts, lubricants, and consumables.
- Follow safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and quality benchmarks during all maintenance activities.
- Support field deployments and emergency repair requirements, including work under challenging conditions when required.
- Coordinate with supervisors and team members to plan maintenance schedules and prioritize critical repairs.
- Assist in maintaining workshop discipline, cleanliness, and compliance with environmental and safety guidelines.
Requirements
- Relevant technical qualification in Automobile/Mechanical trade (e.g., ITI/Diploma or equivalent), as applicable to the post and recruitment rules.
- Demonstrated knowledge of motor vehicle systems, workshop practices, and mechanical/electrical troubleshooting.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, service schedules, and repair procedures.
- Working knowledge of workshop tools, measuring instruments, and diagnostic devices.
- Physical fitness and willingness to undergo selection stages such as PET/PST and other prescribed assessments.
- Strong discipline, integrity, and ability to work effectively in a structured, uniformed environment.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping are preferred.
