Position: Lab Assistant

We are seeking a detail-oriented Lab Assistant to support day-to-day laboratory operations, maintain accurate records, and help ensure a safe, well-organized, and compliant lab environment. This role is ideal for candidates who are methodical, safety-conscious, and comfortable working with routine laboratory procedures, sample handling, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing laboratory work areas, tools, and materials for experiments, testing, or practical sessions.
  • Support sample collection, labeling, handling, storage, and disposal according to established protocols.
  • Operate and monitor basic laboratory instruments and equipment under supervision; report malfunctions promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of lab benches, glassware, instruments, and storage areas.
  • Prepare reagents/solutions and consumables as per standard operating procedures (SOPs) and instructions.
  • Maintain inventory of chemicals, supplies, and consumables; coordinate replenishment requests.
  • Record observations, measurements, and test-related information in logs/registers or digital systems with accuracy.
  • Follow safety guidelines including PPE usage, chemical hygiene, and biohazard precautions where applicable.
  • Support quality practices by adhering to documentation standards and assisting with audits/inspections when required.
  • Assist senior staff, instructors, or lab technologists in routine tasks and special assignments.

Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: Relevant laboratory/science background (e.g., 10+2/Intermediate with Science or equivalent). Higher qualifications in science/medical lab technology are a plus.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety, handling of chemicals, and standard lab practices.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Comfort with routine, repetitive tasks requiring precision and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry, reports, and inventory tracking.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle standard lab materials safely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a school/college lab, diagnostic lab, research lab, or industrial quality lab.
  • Familiarity with common lab equipment (e.g., microscopes, balances, centrifuges) and basic maintenance routines.
  • Knowledge of GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) and documentation discipline.
