Position: Laboratory Assistant
We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Laboratory Assistant to support day-to-day laboratory operations. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy hands-on work, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring laboratory readiness through proper sample handling, inventory control, and equipment upkeep.
Responsibilities
- Assist in routine laboratory activities including sample receipt, labeling, storage, and basic preparation as per established protocols.
- Support laboratory testing workflows by preparing reagents, glassware, consumables, and workstations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory areas, including proper waste segregation and disposal in line with safety standards.
- Operate and monitor basic laboratory instruments/equipment under supervision; report malfunctions and coordinate servicing/calibration schedules.
- Maintain laboratory logs, registers, and documentation (e.g., sample registers, inventory records, equipment usage logs) with accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist in inventory management: tracking stock levels, preparing requisitions, receiving supplies, and ensuring proper storage conditions.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), biosafety guidelines, and quality practices to ensure compliance and audit readiness.
- Support senior staff during inspections, audits, and periodic reporting by organizing records and preparing required documentation.
- Coordinate with internal teams for sample transport, scheduling, and communication of routine lab operational updates.
Requirements
- Educational Qualification: Relevant qualification in laboratory/medical laboratory/chemistry/biology or related discipline (as applicable to the hiring organization’s norms).
- Basic understanding of laboratory safety, hygiene, and handling of chemicals/biological materials (as applicable).
- Ability to follow written procedures and maintain accurate records.
- Working knowledge of computers for data entry and documentation (MS Office or similar tools).
- Strong attention to detail, punctuality, and a methodical approach to work.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Prior laboratory experience is preferred but not mandatory (role may be suitable for entry-level candidates depending on organizational criteria).
