Position: Railway NEFR Trade Apprentice
Overview: We are inviting applications for Trade Apprentice positions within the Northeast Frontier Railway (NEFR). This apprenticeship program is designed to provide hands-on technical training, exposure to railway workshop practices, and structured skill development under experienced supervisors. Candidates will work across designated railway units/workshops and learn trade-specific competencies aligned with apprenticeship standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist skilled technicians and supervisors in day-to-day workshop/maintenance activities as per the assigned trade.
- Learn and perform basic to intermediate trade tasks under supervision (e.g., fitting, electrical, welding, machining, carpentry, etc., based on allocation).
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety rules, and quality guidelines while working on tools, equipment, and shop-floor tasks.
- Maintain apprenticeship logbook/records, attendance, and complete periodic assessments as required.
- Support housekeeping, tool handling, and proper storage of materials in the work area.
- Comply with railway safety, discipline, and conduct requirements throughout the apprenticeship period.
- Participate in classroom/technical sessions and on-the-job training modules as scheduled.
Requirements
- Education: ITI/Trade qualification in a relevant discipline from a recognized institute (as per apprenticeship norms for the notified trades).
- Basic Knowledge: Understanding of fundamental trade concepts, tools, and workshop safety practices.
- Skills: Willingness to learn, ability to follow instructions, teamwork, and basic documentation skills.
- Physical/Medical Fitness: Must be fit to perform workshop/field-related tasks as per applicable medical standards.
- Other: Ability to adhere to schedules, safety protocols, and organizational discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior workshop exposure (industrial training, projects, or internships).
- Familiarity with measuring instruments, basic electrical/mechanical tools, and standard safety PPE usage.
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping (where applicable).
