Rural Agricultural Extension Officer (Gramin Krishi Vistar Adhikari)

We are seeking a Rural Agricultural Extension Officer (Gramin Krishi Vistar Adhikari) to support farmers and rural communities by delivering practical, field-based agricultural guidance, improving adoption of modern agronomic practices, and strengthening government/organizational outreach programs. This role involves extensive field visits, farmer trainings, demonstration plots, data collection, and coordination with local stakeholders to improve productivity and livelihoods.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular field visits to villages and farms to assess crop conditions, soil health, irrigation practices, and pest/disease incidence.
  • Provide advisory services on crop planning, seed selection, nutrient management, integrated pest management (IPM), and post-harvest handling.
  • Organize and deliver farmer trainings, awareness camps, and demonstrations (e.g., improved varieties, balanced fertilization, water-saving practices).
  • Support implementation of agriculture-related schemes and programs, including beneficiary identification, documentation, and follow-ups.
  • Collect, validate, and report field data (cropping patterns, yield estimates, input usage, farmer feedback) using prescribed formats/tools.
  • Coordinate with agriculture departments, cooperatives, input suppliers, and local bodies to ensure timely support and resource availability.
  • Assist in preparing seasonal action plans and contribute to extension materials (leaflets, advisories, local-language content).
  • Maintain accurate records of visits, trainings conducted, farmer participation, and outcomes; submit periodic progress reports.
  • Promote sustainable and climate-resilient practices such as soil testing, composting, water harvesting, and diversified cropping.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational guidelines, ethics, and local regulations while working in rural settings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agricultural Extension, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of core agronomic practices, crop protection, soil fertility management, and basic farm economics.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to farmers in a clear, practical manner.
  • Comfort with fieldwork and frequent travel to rural areas; ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Basic computer skills for reporting and record-keeping (MS Office/Google tools); familiarity with mobile-based data collection is a plus.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and manage schedules for trainings and field activities.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and a service-oriented mindset.
  • Preferred: Experience in agricultural extension, farmer training, demonstration management, or government/NGO rural programs.
