Position: Senior Scientific Officer (SSO)

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientific Officer (SSO) to support scientific operations, laboratory excellence, and evidence-based reporting across specialized divisions. This role is ideal for professionals with strong analytical capabilities, deep subject-matter expertise, and a commitment to quality, accuracy, and compliance in scientific work.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct scientific examinations, testing, and analysis as per division-specific standards and protocols.
  • Prepare accurate technical documentation, observations, findings, and formal reports suitable for official and regulatory use.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and ensure adherence to quality and safety procedures.
  • Support casework and scientific evaluations across specialized domains (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Ballistics, Serology/Toxicology, Narcotics, Arson & Explosives, Photography, Telecommunications as applicable).
  • Ensure chain-of-custody practices, sample integrity, and proper documentation throughout analysis workflows.
  • Participate in internal reviews, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives for laboratory processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver timely outputs.
  • Stay current with emerging scientific methods, tools, and best practices relevant to the assigned division.

Requirements

  • Relevant graduate or postgraduate qualification in a scientific discipline aligned to the role (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Forensic Science, Telecommunications, or related fields).
  • Demonstrated experience in laboratory-based analysis, scientific testing, or technical evaluation (experience level may vary by division).
  • Strong understanding of standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality assurance, and documentation practices.
  • Ability to interpret data, draw evidence-based conclusions, and communicate findings clearly in written reports.
  • Proficiency with scientific instruments, analytical tools, and relevant software for data recording and reporting.
  • High attention to detail, integrity, and ability to work under deadlines.
  • Good communication and coordination skills to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
