About UPSC Engineering Services Examination

UPSC ESE is one of the most sought-after examinations for engineering graduates. Successful candidates are appointed as Assistant Executive Engineers or equivalent positions in ministries, departments, and public sector undertakings. The examination is held in three stages: Preliminary, Main, and Personality Test.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) from a recognized university. Age limit is 21 to 30 years as of August 1, 2025. Age relaxation is applicable as per government rules for OBC (3 years), SC/ST (5 years), and PwBD (10 years).

Vacancy Details

Exam Pattern

Preliminary Examination:Two objective-type papers carrying 500 marks. Paper I (General Studies and Engineering Aptitude) and Paper II (Engineering Discipline).

Main Examination:Two conventional-type papers, each of 300 marks, in the chosen engineering discipline.

Personality Test:200 marks interview assessing personality, communication, and leadership skills.
